Distilled from locally produced sugar can molasses at the only distillery in the Fiji Islands, RATU 5 Year Old Dark is as full and rounded as a tropical sunset. It is initially aged in charred oak barrels but then the extra step of filtering it through carbonized coconut husk is taken to soften its woody edges. This results in a fairly mellow dark rum that presents the flavours of oak spice, cocoa, and treacle mixed with a trace of menthol well without any of them becoming overbearing. An excellent mixer that could be pressed into service as a sipper on occasion.
